Nathaniel, a grandson of Sky’s family friends, was diagnosed with a nasopharyngeal tumour when he was three years old. Upon diagnosis of this cancerous brain tumour, Nathaniel underwent extensive radiation and chemotherapy treatment. In January 2008, at the young age of four and a half, Nathaniel succumbed to the disease.
Three months prior to his passing, Nathaniel was granted a special wish by the Children’s Wish Foundation. Nathaniel, his parents and two older brothers were sent to Disney World for a week. Together, the family enjoyed sunny beaches, Disney characters and endless amusement rides. During such trying times, they were able to experience laughter and joy, a much needed relief from the stresses they had back home.
Sky Mitchell was born in Toronto and raised in Richmond Hill, Ontario but currently resides in Calgary, Alberta, where she works for Cadbury Adams. Since she was an adolescent, Sky has been passionate about riding her bicycle across Canada. She can think of nothing more meaningful than to give back to the community by dedicating this journey to The Children’s Wish Foundation.
Sky will be riding from Victoria, British Columbia to St. John’s, Newfoundland. This 8,000 kilometre trek will take approximately two and a half months and Sky will start the ride on Monday, June 9. Currently, Sky is the only rider cycling the complete distance; however, there will be other riders and supporters joining her for various legs of the ride. Sky’s longtime friend, Tory Farr, will be driving the support vehicle for the entire duration of the ride.
In addition, there will be various events along the way. Sky is currently working with the Talisman Centre in Calgary to organize a group ride from Canmore to Calgary in order to involve local cycling enthusiasts. This ride will take place on Sunday, June 22. Riders will meet in Canmore, location TBD. Together, Sky and the group of riders will cycle into Calgary and meet at the Talisman Centre for a BBQ and silent auction in support of the Children’s Wish Foundation.
The Blog on this website will be updated regularly. Be sure to check back frequently to track Sky’s progress as she cycles for wishes across the Nation!
Fantastic. A real breath of fresh air. Good luck and all the best in your travels.

Sky and Tory:
It was great to meet you in Medicine Hat and work on the BBQ with you. Donna and I really admire both of you for your dedication to helping the CWF. You guys put in a long day at the Pharmasave and the Garage Pub. I hope you were happy with the total funds raised here.
The ride to Swift Current the next day must have been a challenge. I am keeping tabs on you through your website. Keep up the great work!!

Congratulations on deciding to dedicate the fulfillment of your dream bike ride across Canada to benefit of others.
You are an inspiration and something of a rainbow too! Besides brightening up your own sky for life and the sky of recipients of the Children’s Wish Foundations, you brighten the sky of those of us lucky enough to meet with you at fundraiser activities etc. along the ride.
Have a safe trip Sky.
